September Recap from a Masters of Teaching Point of View

Master of Teaching student

Its been officially one month into my second and final year in the Masters of Teaching program. This month has been a whirlwind of emotions to say the least. Its been great to catch up with my classmates and hear all about their experiences this summer. Its exciting getting back into the swing of school and get right into the coursework.

Last year’s courses were more content and practical to the classroom. We learned a lot about theories, learning styles and strategies to use in the classroom. In contrast, this year is all about building upon those lessons and extending our knowledge outside of the classroom. Many of the classes I am taking have us discussing current issues and events happening in the field. I have found that I am doing more discussions and group work than last year. We are critically thinking of our roles as educators.

The assignments this year, again, are mostly reflections and reading facilitations with the exception of the ongoing research project. Currently, I am completing my interviews for my research project and working on transcribing them. I hope to finish them up soon, as I am preparing myself for my third practicum at the end of October. I am not sure of where I am placed just yet, so read my next monthly recap to see where I am.
