Warning! Email phishing attempts at UofT

Warning!  There has been a recent increase in email phishing attempts at the University of Toronto.

Alex Nishri, Supervisor of Office Systems in I+TS, reports that there are about 5-10 successful phishing attacks per day.  This means that every day 5-10 members of the University community give their passwords to criminals.  The criminals then use passwords to access University of Toronto email accounts and send spam.

The University of Toronto shuts down accounts which have been compromised to prevent the sending of spam.  However, due to the high volume of spam sent from University of Toronto accounts before accounts can be shut down, some post offices have begun rejecting University of Toronto email.
