New Titles!

Check out these new titles that have been recently added to the OISE Library’s Modern Language Collection (MLC). The MLC contains research and teaching materials in second language education, supporting both the theory and practice of second language teaching.

For students of Modern Greek, The Greek Dictionary & Phrasebook compiled by Aspasia Merkouri will come in handy. It is a concise and compact reference that contains a bilingual dictionary with over 4,000 entries, essential phrases, and phonetic pronunciations for Greek words. It is a useful introduction to the Greek language and alphabet and provides a concise guide to grammar basics and pronunciation.

Studying or teaching Polish? For more in depth language study and instruction, of the Polish language, Polish: And Essential Grammar by Dana Bielec is an easy to use guide to the grammatical structures of the language. The author explains in accessible language the complexities of Polish grammar. This is a second and revised edition and  includes comprehensive descriptions of the parts of speech covered, tables that clearly present information, real life examples, nine appendices, and a new chapter on studying inflected language.

For students and teachers of any language, Games Language People Play by Jerry Steinberg offers over a hundred games to make the hard work of learning a language fun. Games provide a good break from regular grammar and vocabulary lessons. The book includes games for all levels from Beginners to Advanced, as well as games that can be used in a multilevel classroom. The game description indicates the language skill or skills being practiced, the optimal group size, the game’s educational objective, the materials needed to play, a full description of the game, along with additional suggestions, scoring guides and additional handouts.
