Featured Activity Kit: Constructive Triangles

Constructive triangles are a longtime favourite of Montessori classrooms. Perfect for the primary through elementary grades levels, this set of 61 painted wood triangles in 5 differently shaped boxes provide opportunity for a fun hands-on lesson in plane geometry and visual sense.

Use this colourful set to show young students how to put triangles together to make new shapes, including different kinds of triangles, squares, rectangles, and parallelograms. To add a further dimension to the lesson, you can make templates or use the unique shape of the boxes, which include triangle, hexagon and rectangle, to guide students from the creation of simple shapes to more complex ones.

Inspired to use their imaginations, students may also be encouraged to create new patterns and geometric shapes of their own. Constructive triangles are an easy and creative way to help learners to understand shape, size, colour, and their relationship to one another.

The Constructive Triangle Kit is now on display on the library ground floor coffee table, near the circulation desk. You can also view an image of this kit, and other activity kits, in the OISE Library K-12 Manipulatives Database.
