Geometry in the Early Years: Thorncliffe Park Public School and Harrison Public School

Thorncliffe Park Public School and Harrison Public School formed one lesson study team and  created two different public lessons, which will be described separately.This lesson study team was unique in that it brought together two very different school sites with the common purpose of learning about the kinds of spatial reasoning and geometric thinking young children are capable of.  

Thorncliffe Park Public School

Thorncliffe Park Public School represents remarkable diversity with students of newcomer families from more than 43 countries and 95% of students speaking a first language other than English. It is also the largest elementary (K to 5) school in Canada.

Harrison Public School

Harrison Public School is an authorized International Baccalaureate World School located in the Bayview/York Mills community of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The school serves over 230 children from Kindergarten to Grade 6, representing 12 different language groups. Harrison P.S. is a neighbourhood school which is proudly and accurately known as “The Small School with the Big Heart”.
