A great deal of learning that is done at the junior level of primary education involves the development of tacit social knowledge, such as the expression of emotions in everyday life situations. Using the ‘I Have Feelings!: Self-Awareness’ featured activity kit [CR 152.4 L754i], teachers can engage students by having them think about and practice how they might express themselves in a variety of social scenarios involving differing affective responses. Using a series of visual scenario cards designed to evoke strong feelings, individual or class discussion can accompany students’ reactions to these scenarios. This activity kit is an opportunity for exploring the importance of empathy and understanding experience from the perspective of others. It is also an excellent way to practice creative expression through imaginative storytelling.
