Stop by the OISE library and check out the new ‘Shockingly Educational’ seasonal display on lightning and electricity. The imminent arrival of summer brings with it changes in weather patterns, including an increased frequency in thunderstorms. For children, these storms can bring to mind many questions about these natural phenomena, such as “what is lightning” and “why does power to the house sometimes go off during thunderstorms?” This thematic display collects many of the resources the library has for explaining and exploring this fascinating topic. The display includes books on the science of electricity, such as “Science Alive!: Electricity” [CR 530 S4162 .E38] and “Circuits, Shocks, and Lightning” [CR 537 P481C], materials of weather phenomena, including “Lightning” [CR 551.5632 S596L] and “Weather & Climate” [CR 500 u55 w362]. Also included in the display are storybooks on these subjects aimed towards younger children, such as “Franklin and the Thunderstorm” [CR 808.042 B772Fa] and Let’s Imagine: Electricity” [CR 500 L646El].
The lightning and electricity seasonal display can be viewed in the display case next to the elevator on the main floor of the OISE library.
