The weather has been a popular topic of conversation lately. Last week was bitterly cold and next week will be … who knows?
What is weather? Why do we have seasons? This is a great time of year to discuss meteorological conditions with your students. This week’s featured activity kit is the Weather Station Log (CR 551.635 W362). This kit allows you to track weather daily, noting high and low temperatures, wind speed, rain or snowfall, humidity, and atmospheric pressure. Use a dry erase marker (included) to record weather conditions every day for a month on a series of reusable cards. Reflect as a class on the findings at the end of the month to get a picture of the season and see the range in atmospheric conditions over time.
Browse the OISE online catalog for other weather-related classroom materials by selecting the “catalog” tab on the main webpage, typing “meteorology” and selecting “subject” from the dropdown menu. Narrow your search to the OISE library on the left hand side of the page, and then narrow again by selecting “Curriculum Resources” under Library Location.
The Weather Station Log kit is currently displayed on the small table near the Circulation Desk on the Ground Floor of the library. Check it out today!
