The OISE Library has a wealth of activity kits that help make science and technology studies fun and exciting. Mystery Festival (C.R. 500 G323My) brings the world of forensics and crime scene investigation into the classroom. Through the use of forensic lab techniques, students solve two mystery cases. There are two scenarios geared to two different age groups: “Who Borrowed Mr. Bear?” for younger students and “Who Killed Felix?” for students in grades 4-8. Mystery Festival provides practical, real world applications for scientific concepts and processes like dna and fingerprinting. In addition to providing a hands-on opportunity to learn more about science, students are encouraged to flex their critical thinking muscles. Mystery Festival’s activities hinge upon learning the difference between evidence and inference.
This kit is currently on display on the coffee table near the service desk on the 1st floor of the OISE Library.
