Written for students in grades 1-3, Turtle Island Voices (2011) is a new series that features First Nations, Métis, and Inuit characters in stories that honour and celebrate Canada’s Aboriginal history and culture.
As students read their way through these exciting narratives, they further develop their literacy skills. You’ll notice that each title is catalouged by grade and then by reading level. For example, CR 428.6 T962 Gr.1 Level A is the call number for the first book in the series. The next book is CR 428.6 T962 Gr.1 Level B.
Be sure to also take a look at the accompanying Teacher’s Guides for ideas on how to facilitate meaningful and fun follow up discussions, and to find helpful strategies for drawing connections between Aboriginal perspectives and your existing curriculum.
This great series, along with all of our newest materials, is located on the New Acquisitions shelf across from the Service Desk on the ground floor. If you don’t find it there, come ask at the Desk for help!
