An educational twist is added to the classic board ‘Chutes [Snakes] and Ladders’ with this ‘Good Garden Edition’ [CR 630 M662G Game]. This featured activity kit is designed for 2 to 6 players and is based on the theme ‘from hunger to having enough’ as a means to engage students in learning about issues of world food security and the challenges of agricultural production. In conjunction with the Good Garden illustrated storybook [CR 630 M662 Book], the game introduces students to the challenges facing small-scale farmers, including basic issues of subsistence farming to competing in regional and global agricultural marketplaces. In playing the game, these challenges are represented through two gameplay elements; problematic “chutes,” such as drought, soil erosion, and insufficient credit, as well as beneficial “ladders,” such as the benefits of agricultural training, better seeds, and fair loan practices. Teaching lessons and curriculum manuals are available to help incorporate the learning done through the game into classroom activities and lesson plans from the Good Garden website at www.thegoodgarden.org.
