Investing in renewable energy is on the rise as we try to address and change our habits in the fight against global warming. You can get your students involved too with the new Renewable Energy Kit at OISE Library. This kit has everything you will need to introduce your students to alternative energy sources that are less harmful to our environment.
The kit comes with a fantastic booklet that provides an introduction to energy, fossil fuels, and renewable energy. The booklet highlights solar energy, wind energy, and hydropower, and provides a chapter on each that details how they work. For each chapter, the booklet includes background information, teacher notes, additional activities, display ideas and answers.
For hands on learning, the kit includes a wind turbine, water turbine, solar panel, and 4 different output dials (light display, power meter, alarm buzzer, and motion display). The booklet provides detailed instructions on how to assemble the activity in order to demonstrate how each form of renewable energy works. The basis of the activity is to generate enough energy make something happen in the output dial, whether it is the buzzer alarm making a noise or the light turning on.
This activity kit is a great tool to get your students interested in renewable energy and create a more sustainable future.
The Renewable Energy Kit is now on display at OISE library on the ground floor coffee table, adjacent to the Circulation Desk.
