Demonstrate the principles of mechanical physics with this week’s featured activity kit, Pulleys, Gears and Levers [CR 531.8 E24P]. Students construct models of simple machines such as cranes, inclined planes, and wheels and axles, and carry out experiments outlined on the student cards provided. More advanced students can design and build their own pulley and gear systems. This study kit is designed to arouse curiosity in children and encourage students to make connections between the topics they have explored and the world around them. Kit includes levers, gears, meccano building pieces, and nuts and bolts, as well as 11 student cards and a booklet with notes and suggestions for teachers.

This week we are showcasing Pharaoh’s Phonics: A Word Building Game C.R. 421.5 P536. The kit features letter tiles that depict the sounds of blends and vowels (long and short), and an interactive game board. Players begin with a letter and build a pyramid of words below, exploring the relationships between letters and sounds. The game is ideal for children aged 7 and up but includes variations for younger users. Currently displayed on the coffee table near the Circulation Desk on the Ground Floor of the Library.

Demonstrate the fun of patterns in math with our featured activity kit, the 100’s Number Board [C.R. 513 H933]. The kit includes red, blue, and numbered tiles that teachers and students can use to visually explore patterns and numbers.
