Universal Design for Learning (UDL)

UDL is intended to provide a framework for curriculum, teaching, learning, and assessment of learners who are diverse along many dimensions, including gender, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, age, ability, and disability (Burgstahler, 2010). Principles include (1) multiple means of representation (providing multiple ways for students to acquire and access information); (2) multiple means of action and expression (offering flexible ways for students to apply information and demonstrate their learning); and (3) multiple means of engagement (promoting student interest in content) (CAST, 2011).
