Students Move in to Robarts Tonight for Live-In for Literacy

Two student volunteers will live on the first floor of Robarts Library from January 27 to February 3, 2011 as part of DREAM’s annual Live-in for Literacy event.

DREAM (Discover the Reality of Educating All Minds) is a student initiative dedicated to developing child education and promoting literacy worldwide by fundraising for the charity Room to Read. Since 2005, DREAM has spread to a total of 9 universities across Canada, has been covered nationally by several media outlets and, more importantly, has raised over $90,000 for Room to Read.

Live-in for Literacy is an annual event wherein two students from each of the participating universities will live in their campus library for one whole week in order to collect donations and raise awareness. Last year, DREAM achieved its goal of raising $20 000 to build a school library in India as well as publish 10 000 children’s books in a local language. This year, they have the ambitious goal of raising $27,000 to build six school libraries in India. Donations and raising public awareness of the Live-in event are very appreciated and instrumental in promoting our cause.

Help DREAM bring literacy to impoverished communities by visiting the students from January 27 – February 3, on the Ground Floor of the Robarts Library and making a donation.
